I am finally done with this month's Green Pepper Press Street Team Crusade! This is the third crusade I've participated in and it was actually the one I had the most difficult time with. My paper casts are shown below.
(Clockwise from upper left - fish made from a ceramic piece, key, fairy made from a brass charm, and face from a polymer clay mold)I used tissues with a handful of small paper scraps to make the casts. During the process, I kept feeling like I was spending more time straining and blotting the pulp than I did actually applying it to my pieces. It was driving me crazy! After conferring with Jane, I think I discovered the issue - my "strainer" was actually a repurposed kitchen drain stop, and was thus inadequate for the project. I intend to buy a real kitchen strainer (I know - who doesn't own a strainer??) a try making casts from rubber stamps and polymer clay molds in the future.
Meanwhile, Lucy is prepared to "recycle" my paper casts into cat toys. As I was trying to take photos of the casts, she decided they were interesting. You can't really see it in the photo, but she had the key cast in her mouth. Who knew tissue pulp was so tasty?

Cindy - if you decide to keep up with the casting you should try to find a little strainer, like the kind with a handle where you can scoop up the pulp and have the strainer resting over the blender so it's dripping out while you're pinching out the bits your need. I ended up with a second blender - demoted my old glass one to pulp making and then got a cool new one for peach lemonade and vodka slushes - neato with a pouring spout thing. Thanks for sharing your casts with the team!! That key is especially cool!
Cindy, these are fabulous. Really love the little face one. When I did mine I just squished the water out with the palm of my hand, they did take longer to dry but it was much easier.
These look great and such a variety of moulds. I will admit to never using the paper pulp method because it does sound like too much work but good on you for giving it a go.
Inspite of your struggles, these are great Love the moon face and the fish looks like a fossil.. very cool !
Fun though, don't you think to try the new process and have new tools in the bag of tricks ?
Cheers,
Kim
nice molds. even your cat agrees. I am yet to try the blender method but i will!
These are very wonderful. Glad to see you have such a good helper.
