After a month in the making, I'm ready to post my results of this month's Green Pepper Press Street Team Crusade. As I relayed in my previous entry, I broke my right thumb early this month. Within a week, though, I was trying to complete this month's Crusade. Here was my first successful attempt, lifted off of a mounted rubber stamp:The first challenge I ran into was that my first crayon (goldenrod) just wasn't working well. Second, I am not very strong nor am I graceful with my left hand. The impressions I made in that first week were very light, so the resist technique didn't really work as well as I hoped.
Fast forward 2.5 weeks. My thumb is healed now to the point where I can use it now and then for important things, like writing and GPP Crusades. I decided to pick up the crayon again tonight and, with the help of my boyfriend's coin collection (didn't realize he had one until he offered it for this Crusade), made some super cool crayon rubbings!
The coins are from all over the world. My favorite of the bunch is two shillings from England - it has a beautiful ornate pattern that transfers really well. Portraits, found on most of the coins, came out with varied results. And the largest circle - on the bottom right - was actually the faux strainer I used for straining pulp in last month's GPP Crusade. It turned out looking like mini sequin waste! (I love sequin waste! Wish I knew where to find more.)I was so excited at the crisp impressions the coins made that I probably overexerted my thumb a bit. It's feeling kind of stiff at the moment. Perhaps I will give it a rest for a few days - I need to be ready for Stampfest this weekend!
Hope you are all enjoying the long days of summer!

Cindy - so sorry about your thumb! Score on that xray though! AND come on - how cool that the coin collection (and knowledge of it) surfaced right now? Great rubbings from those! Thanks for sharing with the team. (Now pass the crayon over to BF for a few more rubbings before he hides the coins away again).
Pardon the pun, but thumbs up to you for finding a way to participate minus a working opposable thumb! The coins and sequin waste are so cool!
Coins! What a great idea! I would never have thought to do that. The results are wonderful. Even though it is a bit light, your first rubbing is very beautiful...delicate to be exact. Sorry about your thumb, hope it continues to heal quickly.
hi - Cool coin rubbings. Sequin waste, also called punchinella, can be had at Sky Blue Pink. no affiliation, just a happy customer. Stephanie
Hi Cindy !
Hope the thumb heals up quick so you can continue on with all the "important" things in life ! The coins was a genius idea ! Man, we are an imaginative bunch, ain't we ?!
Cheers,
Kim
Dear Cindy,
Thanks for you nice comment in my blog. I love your coin entry. This is really cool.
I think it's great that your needing some texture to take a rubbing from brought out his collection. He even has some pressed pennies, my favorite. I hope the thumb gets better quickly.
I would have never thought about coins. How cool. I hope your thumb is back to normal. It is almost impossible to function without it, so you have done really well.
I wanted to say hi and that I enjoyed your blog :-) Useing your thumb a little bit might have been good theropy for it...(?)
